Now here’s a film to which anyone who has tried parking a car in central Bath can relate (at least, initially!). During their drive to a dinner party, it becomes clear that the marriage of Montreal middle-class couple Jonathan and Brigitte is on the turn. He’s agitated about his health problems and confesses that he dreads the small talk he’ll have to come up with once they arrive, stating that he prefers the void of silence.

The sour, philosophical tone of the conversation primes them for resistance when confronted by a rival for the only convenient parking space. The other driver has a bigger car, a much bigger physique and a gnarly attitude. Plus – he seems to know Jonathan’s name and communicates using vaguely threatening- sounding riddles. But Jonathan is not in a mood to back down, and as the stand-off escalates he suddenly faces a huge question – how can he live in a world governed by such fickle, unfair quirks of fate?

This finely-honed, multi-layered thriller will have you thinking about the questions it raises (and doesn’t necessarily answer) for ages following the screening, as well as keeping you thoroughly engaged as you watch. Bath Film Festival’s screening, following the film’s global premiere at the Shanghai International Film Festival (where it caused quite the stir) in June, will be a UK premiere, and we hope to welcome director Louis Godbout for a post-screening discussion / Q+A.
