On the Road (En el Camino)

In David Pablos’ fourth film, he invites us into the hyper masculine world of Mexican long-haul truckers, combined with the complexity of sex work and queer youth. Veneno (Victor Prieto Simental) is an ambiguously aged young man seeking to escape a complicated, traumatic past. Making a living as a sex worker at various truck stops across Mexico, he meets Muñeco (Osvaldo Sánchez), an older man with a drug and alcohol problem who, as a result, is distanced from his family. Veneno convinces Muñeco to give him a lift to a far away town, and the two of them embark on a dark, difficult, lust and drug fuelled road trip which has consequences that neither of them could ever predict. 

Explicitly sexy and heartbreakingly bleak in equal measure, On the Road gives viewers a neon-lit visual feast exploring the euphoric highs and crushing lows of Veneno and Muñeco’s out of place relationship.
