The Education of Jane Cumming

Fifteen-year-old Jane Cumming is angry, isolated and painfully aware of her place in society. Labelled illegitimate and moved from India to live with her grandmother in 19th-century Scotland, she struggles to connect with other teenagers.

When Jane makes a damaging accusation against Marianne Woods and Jane Pirie, two respected schoolteachers, her words unleash a scandal that threatens to destroy their reputations and place within the community.

Directed by Sophie Heldman and starring Clare Dunne and Flora Nicholson, the film is based on the true events that inspired Lillian Hellman’s stage play The Children’s Hour. The result is a tense and moving period drama about accusation and the power of rumour.
