Late ‘90s Pristina, Kosovo. Dua is a typical 13-yr-old, wrangling the onset of adolescence in the usual way (dances, lipstick, boys…). But as a Kosovar Albanian she lives in a far-from-typical situation, as the racial tensions between her people and the Serbs, which mark the onset of the Kosovan war, begin to impact her loved ones. As things escalate her proud father forbids the family to flee while her brother joins the resistance. Following a personal assault Dua turns to her spirited friend Maki who suggests a way of channeling her rage and of fighting back, but will this guarantee her endurance?

In her second feature director Blerta Basholi (Hive, 2021) coaxes a focussed, earnest performance from newcomer Pinea Matoshi as Dua, whose feelings and intentions are rarely voiced but are only too clear in her expressive face, which frequently fills the frame. Dua won the Cannes 2026 SACD Award, presented by the Société des Auteurs et Compositeurs Dramatiques in recognition of outstanding screenwriting. The festival screening will be Dua’s UK Premiere.
