Wicker

Olivia Colman stars as a fisherwoman in this magical and genre-stretching film based on a modern fairy tale. She lives alone, until she asks the basketweaver (Peter Dinklage) to make her a husband; which he does - out of wicker. Alexander Skarsgaard plays this perfect partner who fulfills her every wish, which in turn causes trouble in the village, where the wives start to see their husbands as inadequate and the husbands resent the competition. Elizabeth Debicki plays Colman’s principal adversary while Richard E. Grant makes an eye-popping cameo appearance as her father, an incompetent surgeon.

The film is funny, thought-provoking and unlike anything else you have seen. Colman is the least vain actor you can imagine, allowing her appearance to be completely plausible. The film is an extraordinary achievement of imagination and daring which grips from start to finish.
