On this national Remembrance Weekend, the Abbey choirs present a diverse but poignant programme of music for reflection, comfort and reconciliation. Ranging from 19th Century composers such as Gabriel Fauré, John Ireland, Hubert Parry and Amy Beach – to the present day -including a new setting of part of St. John’s gospel by Yorkshire born composer, Emma Brown.

The concert concludes with Fauré’s timeless Requiem, sung by the Abbey Boys Choir, Lay clerks and Chamber choir. The first performance of Gabriel Fauré's Requiem took place on January 16, 1888, at the Étoile-de-la-Madeleine (La Madeleine) church in Paris for a funeral mass. In October 2026, our choirs will be singing in La Madeleine, Paris, and will no doubt be inspired to create an uplifting performance this evening.

Please join us as we remember the past and present sacrifice of generations and celebrate the courage and commitment of all who work for peace and reconciliation.
