Gloria Swanson stars as convent girl Kitty Kelly, an enchanting but feisty young woman who quickly catches the eye of the unruly Prince Wolfram (Walter Byron). The pair connect and romance stirs, much to the anger of the prince’s fiancé, the sex-crazed and evil Queen Regina V of Kronberg (Seena Owen). Forcibly separated, Kelly travels to East Africa to see her aunt at a brothel, unaware of the illicit business she runs.
Shockingly expensive to make and yet never completed, Queen Kelly is a scandalous and extravagant masterpiece that goes down in history as a production disaster. Originally opposed by Swanson for its distasteful nature, this is a chance to see a legendary underseen silent film on the big screen.
