Christmas would not be complete without hearing the timeless strains of Handel’s Messiah performed by Bath Choral Society un the magnificent surroundings of Bath Abbey.

Perhaps most famous for its legendary ‘Hallelujah’ chorus, the joys and sorrows of Handel’s most popular oratorio embrace more than just the story of Christmas. Like the baby in the manger, it encompasses “all heaven and earth in little frame.” From the lilting ‘Pastoral Symphony’ as the shepherds watch their flocks to the effervescent ‘For Unto Us a Child is Born’ and triumphant ‘The Trumpet Shall Sound,’ the work takes us on a profound musical and spiritual journey.

100 strong Bath Choral Society is the city’s longest standing auditioned amateur choir, dating back to 1887, and its tradition of performing this enormously popular work runs back to its very origins. Under the talented direction of Katrine Reimers, accompanied by top-level local orchestra The Bristol Ensemble and featuring outstanding international soloists Olivia Boen, Claudia Huckle, Eamonn Mulhall and Alex Ashworth these will be outstanding performances.

These two concerts are extremely popular and a real ‘date’ in the Bath calendar, so early booking is recommended.
