EXPLORE BIG BRUE FESTIVAL

Few subjects are more politically charged, or more easily reduced to slogans, than migration. Yet the movement of people across borders is not an aberration of the modern world. It has shaped nations, economies and cultures throughout human history.

Historian Peter Frankopan, writer and broadcaster Colin Grant and politician Danny Kruger bring three very different perspectives to one of the defining questions of our age. From the great movements of people that have redrawn the world, to the experience of the Windrush generation and today’s arguments over borders, belonging and social cohesion, they examine what migration looks like when viewed through history, personal testimony and contemporary politics.

Can a country remain open while retaining public confidence in its borders? What does successful integration actually require? Who gets to belong, and who decides? And can we find a language for discussing migration that acknowledges both its human realities and its political consequences?
