Bath Opera’s Die Fledermaus: champagne, disguises and trouble, in English with surtitles.

Bath Opera presents Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss II, a fully staged production of the most sparkling of all operettas.

Set in the glamour of the early 1930s, it is an evening of champagne, disguises and delicious trouble, as a long-planned practical joke unfolds at the most extravagant party in town.

When Gabriel von Eisenstein should be reporting to prison, his friend Dr Falke persuades him to spend the night at Prince Orlofsky’s ball instead, where nobody is quite who they claim to be. His wife arrives masked as a Hungarian countess, their maid poses as an actress, and the prison governor is among the guests, all part of Falke’s carefully planned revenge for an old prank. By morning, every deception has caught up with its author in the town jail.

This new production features a talented cast of emerging and experienced singers, supported by Bath Opera’s accomplished chorus. The performance is conducted by Arne Kovac and directed by Naomi Rose-Mock, with Bath Opera’s orchestra bringing Strauss’s glittering waltzes and polkas to life.

Sung in English with English surtitles. Approx. 2½ hours plus interval.
